Hello!!!
Been awhile but haven’t had much to post. One of my former ships had a reunion from 9/16-9/20/2018 down in San Antonio Texas. Meredith and I went down a few days early to be able to see a bit more of the city and people. We were surprised a bit that the city has more of a Mexican flavor than the good ole Texas cowboy that you would think. Not bad or anything like that just different. We had a great time, tried lots of different foods, not as much as I would have liked because of the peppers that I can’t eat but still fun to try. Of course there were at least a couple of steak houses on the riverwalk.
Speaking of the riverwalk, it was great to walk along that. All the restaurants and shops were fun to browse through.
The Mexican Market Place was a couple of hours worth of browsing alone. One of the restaurants there has been open 24 hours a day since it opened a LONG time ago.
The Alamo, what can you say about it that hasn’t been said many times before. It was awe inspiring to walk through knowing what happened there long ago.
Across the street is the Menger Hotel built just 23 years after the fall of the Alamo. Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders in the bar there.
We toured Admiral Nimitz museum and saw the hotel his family owned in Fredericksburg TX. Around the corner is the World War II Pacific Theater Museum that we toured through also.
I took about 250 photos in San Antonio, I’ve uploaded some of them for a cross section of the things we saw. As always I haven’t manipulated any of the photos, they are as they were taken. I hope you enjoy a little bit of Texas I’ve tried to share with you.
Thanks for looking,
Bill
